Image: Severe Drinking Water Crisis in Ahmed Ashraf Colony, Jalpally – Citizens Appeal Resolved by MLC Amer Ali Khan
Jalpally, Hyderabad, June 12, 2025:
Residents of Ahmed Ashraf Colony, Ward No. 16, Jalpally Municipality, a densely populated minority area, are facing an acute drinking water crisis. Despite being a significant and growing residential locality, the area lacks basic access to clean tap water, borewells, and government-supplied water tanks.
According to the Ahmed Ashraf Colony Welfare Association (AACWA), only two or three lanes in the colony have functioning pipelines, and even in those areas, tap water is supplied only once every four to five days. The remaining households, comprising hundreds of minority families, are left with no choice but to purchase water from private suppliers, spending substantial amounts of their hard-earned money on a basic necessity.
“This is not just an inconvenience, it’s a violation of our basic right to water,” said Abdul Subhan Khan, a resident and active member of the welfare association. “We request the immediate attention of local authorities, including the MLA, Municipal Councillor, and officials from the Water and Sewerage Board.”
The Welfare Association is appealing to the Telangana Minority Congress Nominated MLC Janab Amer Ali Khan Sahab, well known for his proactive role in addressing minority issues, to intervene and ensure that drinking water infrastructure is extended to all lanes in Ahmed Ashraf Colony and surrounding minority-dense areas.
Despite repeated appeals, no borewell or community water tank has been sanctioned by the Government of Telangana for this ward. Citizens emphasize the urgency of installing permanent water supply systems, including tap lines, borewells, and storage tanks, to ensure consistent and clean water availability.
The Ahmed Ashraf Colony Welfare Association (Regd. AACWA_331/2023) also forwarded their grievances to local leaders and departments, including:
Ward Councillor Budumala Yadagiri (Ward 16)
Municipal Commissioner, Jalpally Municipality
HMWSSB (Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board)
Rangareddy District Officials and Collectors
GHMC and South Zone Zonal Commissioner
The residents hope their long-standing issue will soon be resolved, with support from people’s representatives like MLC Amer Ali Khan, whose commitment to minority welfare continues to inspire trust and action.
